“What can you do?” Study to build your strengths.

In order to open up the future, it is important to build your own strengths. It was once common to see the examiners asking you a run-of-the-mill question “what do you want to do in our company?” in company interviews.

In recent years, however, many companies have shown a tendency to ask applicants questions such as “what can you do in our company?” and “what are your strengths?” to know their abilities and attributes. Tokyo University of Information Sciences (TUIS) aims to nurture students who can confidently answer such questions.

The Faculty of Informatics is starting the new three disciplines: “Information Systems”, ”Data Science”, and “Information Media” where we will deal with research on intelligent information, system design, networking, information security, Internet of Things (IoT), computer games, data science, and media science, keeping up with the demands of companies and society. Furthermore, we will organize an advanced educational curriculum for the upcoming digital society, such as metaverse and DX, etc., looking ahead to future industrial-academic collaboration.

Also, The Faculty of Nursing conducts education in response to social requests. The support system for elderly people is more demanded than ever in Japan’s super aging society. To build the infrastructure, much attention has been paid to community-based integrated care systems. In order to develop this system further in Japan, we set the goal of training nurses who will make use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) such as home medical care and online diagnosis, etc.

It is important to utilize various data in the field of informatics, medicine and nursing. Although the data might look like mere strings of characters or rows of numbers at first glance, we can create new values and possibilities when understanding the meaning of data. I hope that students studying at TUIS will come to understand the true meaning of data, and also hope that they can develop their strengths to open up the future.
