Message from President

-A Learning Environment Equipped with Practical Skills and Cutting-Edge Innovation to Pave the Way for the Future-

Thank you for visiting the website of Tokyo University of Information Sciences. We sincerely appreciate your continued understanding and support of our educational programs and student activities.

Tokyo University of Information Sciences was established in 1988 as Japan’s first private university to bear the name “Information.” Guided by our founding spirit of “Break through to the future” and our educational philosophy of “Modern practical science,” we value a pioneering mindset that boldly ventures into unknown fields, aiming to foster student growth and contribute to society. With two faculties—Faculty of Informatics and Faculty of Nursing—we offer distinctive and practical education that anticipates the needs of the times.

The Faculty of Informatics has a three-division systems: Information Systems, Data Science, and Media Informatics. Our curriculum emphasizes learning from fundamentals to applications, with hands-on experiences through industry-government-academia collaboration. Students engage in cutting-edge and interdisciplinary studies in areas such as AI, intelligent robotics, cybersecurity, entertainment computing, bioinformatics, and e-sports. We also offer diverse opportunities for practical learning, including joint research with companies and municipalities, product and service development, and regional problem-solving initiatives.

In 2024, we launched the “Co-Creation Lab,” where students and faculty collaborate on projects such as e-sports research, game development, virtual space experiences, and the Rover Project—developing planetary exploration rovers using AI and autonomous driving technologies. Our campus is energized by the activities of the “Super NOVA” team, which has won national championships, and by events such as the “Space Rover Cup” and the “Tokyo University of Information Sciences e-Sports Tournament.” Leveraging the advantages of our suburban campus, we have also developed experimental fields for drone-based research.

Tokyo University of Information Sciences e-Sports Tournament is a collaborative event involving local communities, high school students, and businesses. Through organizing competitions using popular titles like Fortnite, we promote teamwork, strategic thinking, and IT skill development, while also contributing to community building and regional revitalization in conjunction with our open campus events.

Another distinctive feature is our cybersecurity education in collaboration with the Chiba Prefectural Police. Through training programs and online patrols conducted in partnership with the Cybercrime Division, we provide practical safety guidance aligned with real-world scenarios. Our graduates are actively contributing on the front lines of law enforcement.

The Faculty of Nursing focuses on cultivating nurses with strong information literacy. We provide thorough instruction in ICT, medical information systems, data analysis, and electronic medical records—skills essential for modern healthcare settings. Starting in 2025, we will introduce experiential curricula using VR goggles, enabling students to gain advanced practical insights beyond traditional clinical training. Our program also emphasizes next-generation regional healthcare and interdisciplinary collaboration, including studies in community-based integrated care and tele-nursing. Students engage in hands-on projects such as early detection and support for cognitive frailty in the elderly by dementia supporters, development of self-monitoring tools for residents in collaboration with community support centers, and participation in health seminars, community cafés, and local events. All students are required to use iPads, fostering data-driven thinking and information literacy in everyday classes. Looking ahead, we aim to integrate the strengths of both faculties to develop a unique curriculum that combines informatics and nursing, paving the way for an innovative nursing education.

Our university has been certified under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Education Program Accreditation System (MDASH)” at the literacy level. Common subjects such as “Information Society and AI” and “Information Literacy Exercises” are included in the curriculum, allowing all students to systematically acquire data science thinking and information utilization skills from the basics. Our graduates, shaped by the philosophy of “Independence and Cooperation,” are highly regarded as immediately effective professionals with problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and creativity across various fields including business, healthcare, and welfare. From their first year, students have access to career support programs and opportunities to participate in industry competitions, helping them develop practical skills early on.

Tokyo University of Information Sciences is a place that values diversity, a spirit of challenge, and curiosity. We support each student’s desire to “give it a try,” and continue to create an environment where they can boldly pursue their dreams and goals, expanding new possibilities. Our mission is to nurture individuals with the practical skills to pioneer the future through learning and personal growth.

We sincerely ask for your continued understanding and support of our educational and research activities.
